At Orthosport Hospital, Ahmedabad, our fellowship-trained shoulder, sports injury, and joint preservation surgeons provide advanced surgical treatment for rotator cuff tears, Achilles ruptures, and other significant tendon injuries with a focus on restoring function, strength and long-term joint performance.
Tendons connect muscles to bones and are essential for movement, strength and joint function. Injuries can occur due to sports, sudden trauma, repetitive overuse, degeneration or chronic stress.
Quick answer: Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair in Ahmedabad typically costs ₹90,000 to ₹2,50,000, depending on tear size, technique, and whether biological augmentation (AbGel + GFC) is used. Full breakdown, recovery timeline, and who this is for – below.
| Procedure | Approximate Cost Range (₹) |
|---|---|
| Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair (standard) | ₹90,000 – ₹1,80,000 |
| Rotator Cuff Repair + AbGel/GFC Biological Augmentation | ₹1,40,000 – ₹2,50,000 |
| Mini-Open / Open Rotator Cuff Repair | ₹80,000 – ₹1,60,000 |
| Achilles Tendon Repair | ₹1,00,000 – ₹2,00,000 |
| Flexor / Extensor Tendon Repair | ₹40,000 – ₹1,20,000 (depends on number of tendons and complexity) |
Flexor tendons allow the fingers and wrist to bend and are particularly vulnerable to cuts, crush injuries and penetrating trauma. Injuries may result in an inability to bend one or more fingers and can be associated with damage to nerves, blood vessels or other structures. Treatment may require meticulous surgical repair to restore tendon continuity while minimizing adhesions and preserving tendon gliding.
Early, carefully supervised rehabilitation is an essential part of recovery.
Treatment is individualized according to the tendon involved, injury pattern, tissue quality, chronicity, patient activity level and functional requirements.
Where appropriate, tendon repair can be combined with biological augmentation to support the body’s natural healing response.
Very few centres in Ahmedabad currently combine tendon repair with structured biological augmentation this is one of the things that sets tendon and rotator cuff surgery at Orthosport apart from a standard repair-only approach.
In selected patients, we use a combination of AbGel and GFC (Growth Factor Concentrate) as an adjunct to tendon repair.
GFC provides a concentrated preparation of growth factors derived from the patient’s own blood, which enhances healing at the site of injury augmenting the surgical repair and reducing pain at the same time. But it has a limitation of having a short life; hence AbGel comes into play, which is a commonly used material in open spine surgeries for decades. It gives a platform for the GFC to stay in place for around 6 weeks, making its effect more durable and long-lasting.
The objective is to create a more favourable biological environment around the repaired tendon during the healing process.
Clinical examination and appropriate imaging, including MRI or ultrasound when required, to understand the type, size and quality of the tendon tear.
Tendon healing can be influenced by factors such as tendon quality, age, tear size, chronicity, tissue vascularity and mechanical loading. Biological augmentation is intended to complement not replace a sound surgical repair and structured rehabilitation programme.
| Procedure | Early Recovery | Full Recovery |
|---|---|---|
| Rotator Cuff Repair | Sling for 4–6 weeks; passive motion begins early | 4–6 months for full strength and overhead activity |
| Achilles Tendon Repair | Protected weight-bearing/boot for 6–8 weeks | 6–9 months to return to running and sport |
| Flexor / Extensor Tendon Repair | Splinting and supervised hand therapy from week 1 | 8–12 weeks for functional finger movement |
Strong repair. Better biology. Smarter rehabilitation.
Our aim is not only to repair the torn tendon, but to optimise the biological and mechanical environment in which healing takes place.
