It’s either lifelong medicines or major surgery for knee pain relief

Discover a second option at Orthosport hospital that might be suggested by some but properly done by few in india

“Take medicines.”

“Use a knee brace.”

“Do physiotherapy.”

And when those stop helping: “You may need a knee replacement.”

But what if there was another option?

At Orthosport Hospital, we believe that many patients with knee osteoarthritis can benefit from treatments designed to preserve their natural knee joint before considering major surgery.

Our Knee Preservation Program combines advanced biologics treatments with rehabilitation, and evidence-based orthopaedic care to help patients stay active, mobile, and independent for longer.

Knee Osteoarthritis is a progressive damage of cartilage overtime due to wear and tear and a process which once begins starts a vicious cycle inside the joint capsule leading to degeneration of all structures of knee resulting in pain and deformity.

Ever wondered why knee pain symptoms differ in different individuals?

It is because it not only damages the cartilage but also the meniscus, ligaments, subcondral bone, joint capsule, synovium and weakening of muscles. So, the symptoms differ as to which structure is damaged more comparatively.

Later stages progress to deformity (varus) also leading to inward turning of thigh and outward turning of lower leg when we walk, along with the bigger villain that is pain creating a greater imbalance and tendency to fall negatively affecting our life by decreasing our day-to-day activity. Better quality and longer life are directly proportional to mobility of a person.

Here the second option comes to play.

Traditional and most widely used methods are intra-articular steroids or hyaluronic acid (Visco supplement) injections to reduce knee pain when conservative therapy fails.

But their fluctuating relief time, that is less than 6 months in majority of patients have discouraged it use among orthopedics in general. Hence for decades newer methods such as PRP and Stem cells have been tried and tested but fail to give better results than traditional knee injections even when given multiple times consecutively.

So is PRP and Stem cells just a marketing gimmick or an unpredictable treatment with no guarantee whatsoever. That can’t be true because some people have been delivering consistent results for decades now with truth, proper preparation methods and protocols along with rehab and the most important which makes the whole difference, proper placement of Ortho biologic.

We present two new effective regimens in our arsenal that possess real scientific evidence followed with international protocols that at present are delivered by very few handful sports or orthopedic clinics in India. We noticed that these techniques are not followed by even large regenerative hospitals with international reputation.

We encountered a lot of patients who had prior PRP and stem cell treatment but had no satisfactory results coming to us saying “doc, I took 4 knee injections but no change in pain whatsoever please do something” we had nothing more left to intervene except the most accepted replacement surgery to elevate their pain and correct their deformity.

But that’s not how it should truly work because between conservative treatment and surgery there comes an option which works wonder if done correctly in a scientific manner.

First treatment being a non-invasive intra-articular injection cocktail which combines two powerful biologics plus two more substances for sustainability and effectiveness giving synergistic effect. We don’t use PRP because we don’t need unnecessary molecules that give nothing more than increased initial flare ups and takes up our limited space, what we need is the one thing that is known for healing since time known i.e. platelets that too in right concentration and right environment for activation, hence preparation is the key not only of the cocktail but the patient’s knee too.

Second option is a minimally invasive technique that has a pre-requisite for a patient to have indication of it hence making decision making simpler and more convenient in knowing whether it will be effective for that patient or not. No confusion and no false hope. A simple T1 weighted MRI will be done to check for bone marrow lesions and if present the patient can be a candidate for this procedure. Evidence has shown to delay knee replacement surgery for up to 15 years or more if this procedure based on BMAC (stem cells) is performed in the correct way and yes, they can do wonders but not in the joint but in the bone where they truly belong. We not only use stem cells but another cocktail in the bone as well as the first option in the joint. A 360-degree treatment approach for severely arthritic knee.
